A Santa Rosa man is behind bars today following a tense confrontation with police on the city’s west side.
On Saturday morning, officers responded to reports of a man using a large knife to cut trees near Fulton Road. Police say the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Martin Nunez Rodriguez, ignored commands in both English and Spanish as he walked toward Occidental Road brandishing the weapon.
After several blocks of attempted de-escalation, the situation turned critical when Rodriguez allegedly lunged at an officer. Police deployed a Taser to safely immobilize him.
Rodriguez was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and resisting an officer. A search also turned up suspected methamphetamine. No officers or bystanders were injured in the encounter.
