The Sonoma Valley Unified School District has found its next leader, and they didn’t have to look far to find him.
The Sonoma Index-Tribune reports the Board of Trustees has selected Jason Sutter as the district’s new superintendent. A 30-year resident of Sonoma Valley, Sutter brings over three decades of experience to the role, including a prior six-year stint as the principal of Prestwood Elementary. He joins the district from Petaluma City Schools, where he served as Assistant Superintendent.
Board President David Bell praised Sutter’s “local roots” and his ability to lead through crisis, noting his work during the 2017 fires and the pandemic. Sutter is also a district parent; his youngest daughter is currently a senior at Sonoma Valley High.
The board is expected to formally approve Sutter’s contract on February 12th, with his first official day on the job set for March 1st. He succeeds interim superintendent Rena Seifts, who has led the district since last June.
