Supervisor Coursey Wants Sonoma County Law Enforcement To Cut Ties With ICE

A significant rift has emerged on the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors over local cooperation with federal immigration agents.

Per the Press Democrat, Supervisor Chris Coursey is calling for an absolute end to all communication with ICE, labeling the agency “dangerous” following a surge in aggressive federal enforcement. Coursey’s stance marks a major shift from his previous support for a policy that allowed the jail to notify ICE about inmates convicted of violent crimes.

While his call has been hailed by immigrant advocacy groups, it puts him at odds with the rest of the board and Sheriff Eddie Engram, who maintains that limited cooperation is essential for public safety.
