A driver involved in a head-on collision with a Petaluma police cruiser this week says a “phantom” truck is the real cause of the accident.
Chris Gosiak, a professional driver for over 20 years, told investigators he was forced to drive evasively Tuesday afternoon on North McDowell Boulevard. Gosiak says a white Dodge Ram pulled out of a parking lot suddenly, forcing his pickup to swerve over the median and into the path of an oncoming patrol car.
The crash totaled both vehicles, but the two officers and a police K-9 inside the cruiser escaped with only minor injuries. Gosiak, who was also unhurt, emphasizes that speed and intoxication were not factors.
The CHP is now reviewing surveillance footage to identify the white truck that fled the scene. Anyone with information is asked to call 800-835-5247.
