The Santa Rosa Police Department is conducting a targeted enforcement operation today, January 23rd, specifically looking for drivers violating California’s hands-free cell phone laws.
Under the law, holding a device to talk, text, or use an app while driving is illegal and carries a fine.
Police warn that a second conviction within three years will now add a point to your driving record. Officers are urging motorists to silence their phones or pull over to a safe spot before checking messages.
Today’s crackdown is funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety, with more enforcement dates planned throughout the coming months.
