Cat Dies In Occidental House Fire

Firefighters rushed to a home on Main Street in Occidental Monday morning after a column of smoke was seen rising from the single-story residence.

Crews managed to knock down the flames in just five minutes, containing the fire to the back living area, though the home suffered significant smoke and heat damage.

The homeowner was cleared by medics at the scene, and while firefighters were able to rescue one cat, a second pet tragically did not survive.
