The San Francisco-based Save the Redwoods League has reached a $4 million deal to acquire 200 acres of pristine forest, expanding the Harold Richardson Redwoods Reserve to nearly 1,000 acres.
Located east of Stewarts Point, this new land acts as a gateway, giving the League full ownership of the access road and protecting rare wildlife like the northern spotted owl and ancient trees over 300 feet tall.
A fundraising effort launched today to cover the purchase price, with the goal of finalizing the sale this year to eventually open up greater public access to some of the oldest redwoods in the region.
