Emotions ran high at the Sonoma City Council meeting this week as students and LGBTQ+ advocates turned out in force to defend the pride flag at Sonoma Valley High.
The Sonoma Index-Tribune reports the flag was briefly removed earlier this month by the school board president—an action critics called “disingenuous”—before public outcry forced its return.
While students called for a formal resolution of support, city leaders also spent the evening tackling local crime data, stable mid-year budget reports, and a heated debate over how to improve emergency shelter protocols for the city’s homeless during extreme cold snaps.
