Trustees at Rincon Valley Union School District meet tonight to consider sixty staff layoffs as they scramble to close a massive $8.5 million budget deficit.
This follows the recent decision to close Whited Elementary, a move officials say is necessary after years of overspending drained the district’s reserves.
It’s a tough blow for the community, especially since dozens of positions were already cut last year to keep the 3,200-student district afloat.
