A new nonprofit has officially taken over the Clearlake Animal Shelter following reports of “deplorable” and inhumane conditions under previous management.
Per the Lake County Record-Bee, the Clearlake Animal Association stepped in this week after officials discovered over 100 dogs living in filth and being fed expired food due to extreme overcrowding.
The new team is now racing to provide urgent medical care and vaccinations, but they warn that stabilizing the facility will require a major community effort and some tough decisions on public safety to ensure these conditions never happen again.
