Windsor residents and city leaders are pushing back on a proposal to transform the shuttered Windsor Creek Elementary School into a 368-unit housing complex for teachers and school staff.
According to the Press Democrat, during a packed informational meeting, neighbors argued that adding such a high-density project to the already-congested Conde Lane would create a nightmare for traffic and potentially block emergency evacuation routes.
While school district officials say the subsidized housing is essential to attract talent in Sonoma County’s expensive market, the Town Council remains skeptical, with Mayor Rosa Reynoza calling the project’s estimated $15 million price tag “scary.”
The project is still in its early stages and would require years of environmental reviews and zoning changes before any construction could begin.
