Terra Linda High School Students Building “Nature-Based” Playscape For Petaluma School

A group of Marin high school students is trading textbooks for power tools to help local toddlers get outside.

The Marin Independent Journal reports about 30 juniors from the Marin School of Environmental Leadership at Terra Linda High have designed and built a “nature-based” playscape from scratch. The eco-friendly area features a 10-foot reading nook, mud kitchens with running water, and tiered wood waterfalls.

The project is designed to encourage imagination and a connection to the natural world.

The high schoolers, many of whom had never built anything before, learned hands-on engineering and woodworking using materials donated by local shops. The new playground will be installed next month at the Spring Hill School in Petaluma.
