Point Reyes Farmworkers Scramble as Eviction Deadline Looms for Historic Ranch Families

A housing crisis is reaching a breaking point in the Point Reyes National Seashore as the final farmworker families face a strict February 28th eviction deadline.

The Press Democrat reports while some families received last-minute extensions, others are scrambling to find temporary shelter. Local nonprofits and the County of Marin have raised over $21 million to build “tiny home” villages and purchase properties for the displaced workers, but many of these units won’t be ready until April.

For now, families are relying on the kindness of neighbors and bridge housing to avoid moving into hotels as the historic era of ranching in the park officially comes to an end.
