Commuters in Santa Rosa should prepare for changes on Sonoma Avenue as a major three-month rehabilitation project kicks off next month.
The $1.5 million project, stretching from Farmers Lane to Hahman Drive, will introduce a “road diet,” reducing vehicle traffic to one lane in each direction to make room for dedicated new bus and bike lanes.
In addition to the new lane configuration, crews from Ghilotti Bros. will be installing new sidewalks, upgrading pedestrian ramps to ADA standards, and replacing aging water services to prevent future road excavations. While construction is underway, the Montgomery Village Transit Hub will be temporarily moved to Montgomery Drive.
Residents are encouraged to seek alternate routes starting March 9 to avoid expected lane closures and delays.
