Windsor Officials Eye Pair of Tax Measures for November Ballot

Windsor residents could be facing two major financial requests this November as both the school district and the town look to shore up their budgets.

The Press Democrat reports the Windsor Unified School District is considering a bond measure to cover nearly $122 million in critical repairs, including aging HVAC and fire systems at the middle and high schools. Superintendent Jeremy Decker notes that while a similar measure failed in 2024, the state expects districts to use bonds for large-scale capital projects rather than their daily operating budgets.

At the same time, the Town of Windsor is weighing its first-ever local sales tax to address a projected $8 million deficit. Officials say a one-cent tax could generate over $5 million annually to fund essential services like police and administration.

While some residents expressed frustration over rising costs and existing taxes, town leaders argue the new revenue is necessary to stabilize Windsor’s long-term fiscal future.
