Santa Rosa Parolee Arrested After Loaded Handgun Found During Traffic Stop

A late-night traffic stop in Santa Rosa has led to the arrest of a man on parole for a prior homicide conviction.

Just before midnight Friday, a Santa Rosa Police officer pulled over a vehicle driving without headlights. The driver, 23-year-old Charlie Mazariegos, was found to be on state parole for a previous murder conviction out of Marin County.

While the vehicle was clear, a follow-up search of Mazariegos’ residence—conducted under his parole terms—uncovered a loaded .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun in his bedroom.

As a convicted felon, Mazariegos is prohibited from possessing any firearms or ammunition. He was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on multiple felony charges and a parole violation.
