A popular Sebastopol community space has abruptly shut its doors following a scandal involving its founder.
According to the Press Democrat, Soft Medicine Sanctuary officially closed this past Saturday. The decision follows the ousting of founder Jonathan Pinkston after allegations of sexual assault and financial abuse surfaced in Humboldt County court filings. Pinkston has denied the claims, and no charges have been filed, though an investigation is ongoing.
In a final statement, the ownership group said they felt “too tender and raw” to continue. The sanctuary offered a final free yoga class and community gathering to mark the end of the business’s four-year run. All memberships have been terminated, and the future of the brand remains uncertain.
