Sentencing was postponed Tuesday for a former Santa Rosa City Schools employee who admitted to sexually assaulting a young woman with developmental disabilities.
The Press Democrat reports 61-year-old Apolinario Santos was absent from court after being hospitalized for an undisclosed medical emergency. Santos recently pleaded guilty to assault with intent to commit a felony and lewd acts on a dependent adult.
The charges stem from his time as an instructional assistant at Ridgway High School, where he worked in a program designed to help young adults with disabilities gain life skills. Investigators say Santos targeted a 20-year-old participant, touching her multiple times a day over several weeks last year. Police were alerted after the woman’s employer reported suspicious behavior caught on security footage.
Judge Kenneth Gnoss has rescheduled the sentencing for March 12th.
