Sonoma County leaders are honoring the local volunteers who keep a watchful eye on government efficiency and integrity.
The Board of Supervisors has officially designated March as Civil Grand Jury Appreciation Month. These volunteer-led bodies serve as independent watchdogs, investigating the operations of county, city, and special districts to ensure public funds are spent wisely.
Board Chair Rebecca Hermosillo called the oversight “healthy and necessary,” noting that the jury’s reports require local agencies to formally respond to their findings. The county is now looking for new members for the 2026-2027 term.
Residents from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply by the May 15th deadline for a commitment of roughly 10 hours per week.
