A major political shakeup in Sonoma County: Supervisor David Rabbitt, the board’s most senior member, announced today he will not seek a fifth term.
The Press Democrat reports Rabbitt’s 16-year career representing Petaluma and the south county farm belt will end this year. He cited a desire to “pass the torch” after a tenure marked by the expansion of Highway 101 and the launch of SMART rail.
His exit creates a wide-open race for the 2nd District. Because the incumbent is stepping down, the filing deadline for new candidates has been extended to this Wednesday, March 11th.
