Beloved Sonoma Valley Fruit Basket Closes After Massive Rent Hike

A local landmark is gone as the Sonoma Valley Fruit Basket on Arnold Drive has officially closed its doors after more than 50 years in business.

The Sonoma Index-Tribune reports owner Tony Homran announced the heartbreaking closure this month, stating that rent for the Schellville location doubled to $11,000 a month after the property was taken over by a Sacramento financial firm following the Ken Mattson bankruptcy.

While the loss of the open-air market is a blow to the community, the Homran family says their second location in the Springs remains open and ready for business on Sonoma Highway.
