Windsor Cuts Ties with Embattled Animal Service Provider

The Town of Windsor has become the fourth local municipality to terminate its contract with North Bay Animal Services following a wave of disturbing allegations.

The Press Democrat reports the City Council voted 3-0 to cut ties effective March 31st, citing mismanagement and “inhumane” conditions reported at other regional shelters previously run by the nonprofit.

To ensure stray animals aren’t left in the lurch, the town has authorized up to $128,000 for emergency coverage through June. Officials are currently negotiating interim contracts with the Humane Society of Sonoma County and Rohnert Park Animal Services.

While the move will cost the town nearly double its previous budget, leaders say the transition is necessary to ensure accountable and effective animal welfare.
