A local senior center was transformed into a paper-folding workshop Monday as students from across the Pacific shared a piece of their heritage with West County residents.
According to the Press Democrat, middle school students from Takeo, Japan, visited the Sebastopol Area Senior Center to teach the traditional art of origami.
The exchange is part of the Sebastopol World Friends program, a nonprofit dedicated to building bridges between Sebastopol and its sister cities through education and student travel.
Visitors at the center learned to transform flat sheets of paper into intricate animals and objects—all without the use of scissors or glue. While origami is a centuries-old tradition, it is increasingly being used today in modern fields like robotics, engineering, and even medical design.
