Marin Grocer Cuts Ties with Petaluma Poultry

A prominent Marin County grocery chain is pulling a major poultry brand from its shelves following long-standing concerns over animal welfare.

The Press Democrat reports Good Earth Natural Foods announced it will no longer carry products from Petaluma Poultry, including the popular “Rosie’s” chicken brand. Store officials cited a lack of transparency and concerns regarding animal handling practices as the primary reasons for the split.

The move follows a series of high-profile allegations and protests by the activist group Direct Action Everywhere, which has targeted the supplier’s Sonoma County operations. While Petaluma Poultry has previously defended its practices and accused activists of harassment, Good Earth joins several Bay Area restaurants in severing ties.

The grocer says it is now confident it can offer affordable alternatives without stocking the controversial brand at its Fairfax and Mill Valley locations.
