Sonoma Releases New Protections for Mobile Home Residents

The City of Sonoma has unveiled a draft ordinance aimed at protecting over 450 affordable housing units within its mobile home parks.

Released on March 19, the proposal targets the city’s three main parks—Moon Valley, Pueblo Serena, and Sonoma Oaks—which primarily serve low-income and senior residents.

The Sonoma Index-Tribune reports the new rules would require park owners to provide “fair market compensation” if a resident’s home cannot be relocated, alongside a comprehensive relocation impact report. Owners would also be responsible for moving costs, security deposits at new locations, and rent differentials for the first year. These updates align with recent state laws while adding local protections that residents have long fought for to prevent displacement.

The City Council is set to review public feedback and the “redline” draft during a study session on April 15.
