Cotati Serves Up New Rules for Food Trucks

Cotati is looking to spice up its local economy with a new ordinance designed to help mobile food vendors get a foothold in the city. The Planning Commission has unanimously recommended a plan that clears the path for food trucks and pushcarts to operate more freely on private lots and in temporary parklets.

Per the Press Democrat, city officials say the goal is to create a “clear framework” that helps small vendors eventually grow into brick-and-mortar restaurants. Under the proposed rules, mobile businesses would see expanded operating hours and more flexibility to serve customers without having to move as frequently.

Local business owners are already cheering the move, saying the community is hungry for more variety. The final decision now sits with the Cotati City Council, which is expected to take a vote on the new policy at their April 14th meeting.
