The Sonoma County community is preparing to honor the life of Marcus Ziemer, the legendary Sonoma State soccer coach who passed away on March 17.
The Sonoma Index-Tribune reports a memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, at 3 p.m. inside the university’s old gymnasium, overlooking the field where Ziemer spent 35 years building a national championship legacy. The 63-year-old coach died following a tragic scooter accident while visiting his daughter in Germany earlier this month.
Beyond his 360 career wins, Ziemer is being remembered as a devoted mentor and a pillar of Northern California soccer through his family’s long-standing camps. A community GoFundMe has already raised nearly $55,000 to support his family with travel and funeral expenses.
Attendees are asked to RSVP via text to the family and utilize paid parking at the university venue.
