A Mother’s Plea: “Just Call 911” After Tragic Sebastopol Death

Nearly three years after losing her 20-year-old daughter to a fatal mix of alcohol and prescription medication, Sebastopol mother Ashlee Sugg is breaking her silence to save other lives.

Per the Press Democrat, Bianca Gomez-Curtis was left unresponsive on her mother’s porch by a companion who later told police he thought she just needed to “sleep it off.” Sugg is now advocating for greater awareness of California’s Good Samaritan laws, which protect bystanders who call for emergency help.

She emphasizes that early medical intervention, like a stomach pump, could have changed everything that night. While authorities ruled the death an accident and filed no charges, Sugg says her daughter’s legacy is now about ensuring no other parent receives that 4 a.m. knock.

Her message to young people is simple: if a friend is in distress, don’t worry about the consequences—just make the call.
