After more than a decade of navigating muddy tracks and gopher holes, Calistoga students finally have a world-class place to play.
Per the Press Democrat, the Calistoga Joint Unified School District held a ribbon-cutting ceremony this week to unveil an $8.7 million modernization of its junior and senior high school sports facilities. The upgraded site features a new artificial turf field, a rubberized track, and seating for 750 fans, all funded by voter-approved school bonds.
Superintendent Audra Pittman called the project a “need, not a want,” noting that the advanced surfacing will help protect young athletes from impact injuries. The celebration was capped off by the school’s first home track meet in twelve years, hosting teams from St. Helena and Petaluma.
While students get first priority, the district says the beautiful new facility will also be open to the community during off-hours.
