Cardinal Newman High School is searching for a new rhythm following the sudden departure of head football coach Frank McManus.
The Press Democrat reports the school announced Tuesday that McManus is leaving after just one year to pursue a career opportunity in Southern California outside of coaching. During his short tenure, McManus led the Cardinals to an impressive 11-2 season and their first-ever North Coast Section Division 1 title game appearance.
Assistant coach Kenny McMillan has been promoted to head coach to maintain stability for the powerhouse program. McMillan, who served as co-offensive coordinator last year, says he is honored to lead the team into what promises to be a challenging fall season.
The Cardinals are slated to face a brutal nonleague schedule, including state giants Folsom and De La Salle.
