New Superintendent Gathers Community Feedback on District Future

Sonoma Valley Unified’s new Superintendent, Jason Sutter, hosted a key community-input session Tuesday night to chart a path forward for local schools.

The Sonoma Index-Tribune reports around 50 families and staff members gathered at Altimira Middle School, praising the district’s strong dual immersion programs and dedicated teaching staff. However, participants also identified urgent needs, including more student wellness centers and improved district-wide communication. This meeting is a cornerstone of Sutter’s “90-Day Entry Plan” since taking the helm on March 1st to better understand local challenges.

Sutter acknowledged tough hurdles ahead, such as declining enrollment and budget balancing, but emphasized a leadership style rooted in transparency and humanity.

A full report based on this feedback will be presented to the Board of Trustees on May 14th to set new district priorities.
