Anti-War Protesters Take to Santa Rosa Streets on Tax Day

A costumed Uncle Sam and a coalition of local activists rallied in downtown Santa Rosa this Wednesday to protest federal spending priorities on Tax Day.

Per the Press Democrat, gathering at the IRS office before marching to Old Courthouse Square, demonstrators called for tax dollars to be shifted away from military conflicts and toward community needs like healthcare and affordable housing.

Protesters also voiced sharp opposition to recent escalations in immigration enforcement and foreign policy under the current administration. Groups including Veterans for Peace and Sonoma County CODEPINK highlighted that nearly half of federal discretionary spending is currently earmarked for defense.

The event concluded with a call for greater investment in local education, clean energy, and social safety nets.
