A federal judge has denied a former Rohnert Park police officer’s request for a retrial following his conviction for stealing cash and cannabis from motorists.
According to the Press Democrat, Joseph Huffaker and his former sergeant, Brendan “Jacy” Tatum, are now both scheduled for sentencing on May 6th in San Francisco. Prosecutors say the pair posed as federal agents during traffic stops on Highway 101 to seize property for personal profit.
While Tatum previously took a plea deal to testify against his partner, Judge Maxine Chesney expressed concerns regarding the sentencing order of the two co-defendants. Huffaker faces a potential 63-month prison sentence, while victims of the scheme say they are ready to finally see justice served.
Both men remain free on bond until their next court appearance.
