With less than 50 days until the June 2nd election, candidates for the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors are facing off over immigration, housing, and water rights.
The Press Democrat reports recent forums hosted by the League of Women Voters highlighted a sharp divide in the 4th District over ICE collaboration, where candidates Melanie Bagby and Tom Schwedhelm sparred over law enforcement’s role in federal immigration enforcement.
Meanwhile, the 2nd District race saw some contenders struggling for specifics on cannabis ordinances and state housing mandates. Climate change and water security dominated discussions in the north county, particularly regarding the decommissioning of the Potter Valley Project dams.
As mail ballots prepare to head out in early May, these open seats in the 2nd and 4th Districts represent a high-stakes shift for the county’s five-member lawmaking body.
If no candidate secures a simple majority this June, the top two finishers will move to a final runoff in November.
