Southwest Airlines is reporting a successful first week at Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport, with flights averaging 75% capacity since its April 7th launch.
The North Bay Business Journal reports Airport Manager Jon Stout says the numbers are meeting or exceeding expectations, prompting the airline to already plan service increases for Denver and a new seasonal route to Austin this October.
While overall passenger totals were slightly down earlier this year following Avelo Airlines’ departure, officials expect a massive 30% jump in April data. Growth is also being fueled by Alaska Airlines, which saw a nearly 29% increase in passengers after adding flights to Ontario and seeing high demand for Palm Springs.
With American Airlines also set to resume its Dallas service in May, the airport is bracing for a busy summer season.
