Santa Rosa is bidding farewell to a nightlife icon following the death of Hank Lacabanne, who passed away at his home on April 21 at the age of 101.
According to the Press Democrat, alongside his late wife Bette, Lacabanne was the heart of the city’s most famous social hubs, including the Miramar, the Red Derby, and Bourbon Street West.
Known as a “gentleman of the old school,” he managed establishments that drew celebrities and high-rollers, often featuring a majestic cherrywood bar saved from the 1969 earthquake. From his roots at the Mount Jackson Resort to his Navy service in World War II, Lacabanne’s life was defined by a passion for hospitality and the “fun” of bringing people together.
Family members remember him as a man whose handshake was his bond and who celebrated his 101st birthday this year by staying at a San Francisco lounge until closing time.
A celebration of his storied life is scheduled for July 14 at Burke’s in Forestville.
