Sonoma County leaders are demanding the FAA fix a controversial new flight path as noise complaints from West County residents skyrocket, jumping from just over a thousand two years ago to nearly thirty thousand last year.
The Press Democrat reports Supervisor James Gore says the concentrated jet traffic over areas like Sebastopol and Forestville has become so intense that county staff now spend hundreds of hours a year just processing the tidal wave of community feedback.
While the county has already spent over a quarter-million dollars on a study to find quieter alternatives, officials say the FAA’s lack of response is deafening. They’re now calling for an immediate return to the old, more dispersed departure routes to provide some relief while a permanent, long-term solution is worked out.
