ICE Arrests Surge at Sonoma County Jail Under Trump Administration

New data shows a dramatic spike in federal immigration activity at the Sonoma County jail, with ICE arrests doubling in 2025 compared to the previous year.

According to the Press Democrat, the report, presented by Sheriff Eddie Engram to the Board of Supervisors, revealed that federal agents reached out to the jail over 600 times during the first year of President Trump’s second term.

The findings sparked an emotional five-hour hearing, as hundreds of protesters demanded the Sheriff’s Office cut all ties with immigration authorities to protect local families.

Sheriff Engram defended his policy of limited cooperation, arguing it targets only the “worst of the worst” repeat offenders to maintain public safety. However, Supervisor Chris Coursey broke with his colleagues to condemn the collaboration, labeling ICE an “illegitimate police force” and calling for a total blackout on information sharing.

Despite the outcry, a majority of the Board signaled they would not force the Sheriff to change his policy, leaving the current notification system in place for now.
