Options Pitched for Seismic Retrofitting of Altimira Middle School

Several options are being considered for improving earthquake safety for buildings at Altimira Middle School. Last week, the Sonoma Valley Unified School District Board reviewed three separate plans presented by a consulting firm, that would address the seismic deficiencies in nine buildings at the school. One option is sending all Altimira students to Adele Harrison Middle School instead and requiring Adele Harrison to add more classroom and lab space costing about $18-million. The second option would have six of the nine buildings at Altimira retrofitted but to lesser standards costing about $4.5-million. The last option would see all nine buildings get fully retrofitted at over $9-million. While presenting these options, the consulting firm said that the buildings at Altimira are currently not at risk of collapse.
