Water Releases Needed at Lake Sonoma After Rainy Winter

A series of planned flood control releases from Lake Sonoma will start today. It’ll be the first such releases in nearly four years. On Tuesday afternoon, Lake Sonoma was near 119-percent of its seasonal water supply following a winter full of major rainstorms. The high-flow releases will begin this morning from the reservoir’s Warm Springs Dam. They’re designed to make space for more storm runoff and maintain the lake’s capacity for flood control during the weeks ahead.
