New Housing Plans in the Works for Site of Ghost Ship Fire

Plans are underway to build new housing in Oakland where 36 people lost their lives in a fire. The Ghost Ship warehouse sat empty since the 2016 tragedy until a few weeks ago. It was torn down and the property sold to help pay a settlement with the victims’ families. They agree there should be some type of permanent memorial or tribute at the site. No word on if a community group has plans do that. They bought the lot and a building next door, hoping to create up to 85 affordable housing units. Construction could begin as soon as 2025.
