Animal Activists Steal 18 Chickens from Trucks Heading to Petaluma Poultry Plant

Animal activists stole 18 live chickens after intercepting two incoming flatbed trucks heading to the Petaluma Poultry processing plant. They also trespassed at the plant and took some chickens out of the slaughterhouse, which is the largest of its kind in Sonoma County. The activists started arriving outside the plant early yesterday morning and the group eventually grew to about 200. Some dressed similar to employees in hopes of going undetected. This comes as four animal activists are facing criminal charges on suspicion of breaking into poultry farms throughout Sonoma County. The activists claiming responsibility for Tuesday’s incident are members of Berkeley-based Direct Action Everywhere, which aims to draw attention to what its members claim is animal cruelty happening at Petaluma Poultry.
