It has now been more than a year since a Sonoma County Sheriff’s deputy shot a man to death after a 45-minute foot chase through rural Knight’s Valley. More than 80 people gathered for a vigil in Santa Rosa’s Old Courthouse Square to remember David Pelaez-Chavez on Saturday, marking the one-year anniversary. Both criminal and administrative investigations into the shooting are still taking place. It has been more than 200 days since the Santa Rosa Police Department handed its investigation to the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office for review. The D.A. will decide if the deputy broke any laws.
