Man Struck by SMART Train in Rohnert Park Identified

A homeless man has been identified as the person struck and killed by a SMART train last Thursday night. Forty-two-year-old Christopher Thomas was hit by the train at a crossing on Golf Course Drive near Commerce Boulevard. A report states that at the time, the crossing gates were down, warning lights were flashing and the train’s horn was working. The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating. Since the SMART train began in 2017, 22 people have been hit by the train resulting in 16 deaths.
