Weeklong Strike Across CSU Campuses Begin Today, Including at Sonoma State University

Today marks the beginning of the first systemwide faculty strike in the 63-year history of the California State University system. It will also be the first faculty strike since Sonoma State University opened in 1961. About 29-thousand faculty members across the 23-campus system are planning a five-day walkout beginning today, which is also the first day of the spring semester. Nearly all of Sonoma State’s 600 faculty members are expected to take part in the strike. It comes after contract negotiations between the CSU and California Faculty Association stalled. The CSU says it will not be cancelling classes. Instead, that will be up to individual faculty members. Sonoma State will stay “open and operational” this week.
