Tax Relief Bill Advancing in DC Will Help Fire Victims with Settlements

PG&E fire victims are a step closer to having their settlements declared non-taxable by the federal government. The Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act of 2024 was passed by the House of Representatives yesterday on a 357-70 vote. Within it is a provision that makes sure PG&E Fire Victims Trust settlements are non-taxable. Congressman Mike Thompson, who has pushed for this in the past, called tax relief a “important step toward recovery” and called for the Senate to swiftly pass the bill.
