WalletHub: California Has 5th Highest Tax Burden in Country

How taxing is it to live in the Golden State? WalletHub compared the 50 states based on the cost of three types of taxes — property taxes, individual income taxes, and sales and excise taxes — to determine which states had the highest tax burden. California ranks 5th on the list. The Golden State has the highest individual income tax at 4.87-percent. We were more middle of the road in terms of property, sales, and excise taxes.

Overall, New York has the highest overall tax burden, while Alaska has the lowest.
