Former California Attorney General Xavier Becerra could become the latest to challenge San Diego State Senator Toni Atkins and others for Governor. The current Secretary of Health and Human Services for the Biden Administration, Bacerra has hinted he may join the race for Governor in 2026 after Gavin Newsom terms out. Politico says in addition to Toni Atkins, Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis, State Superintendent Tony Thurmond and former state Controller Betty Yee are also in the race. Current state Attorney General Rob Bonta is also considering running.
