The California Highway Patrol is encouraging everyone to buckle up as Memorial Day weekend approaches and Californians gear up for summer festivities. The agency will implement a statewide maximum enforcement period starting at 6:01 p.m. Friday, May 24th to address the expected surge in holiday travelers on California roads. It will continue through 11:59 p.m. Monday, May 27th. CHP recorded more than a thousand DUI arrests and 46 traffic deaths during last year’s holiday weekend.
