Retired Coach and Teacher Dies in 11-Vehicle Crash on Highway 12

An 11-vehicle crash closed westbound Highway 12 at Stony Point for 4 hours on Thursday. The cars were stopped approaching the Fulton intersection. The chain-reaction crash happened just before noon. One person died and seven people were injured and taken to local hospitals. Several vehicles were damaged. Westbound 12 was reopened about four hours after the crash.

78-year-old Pat LaFortune was identified as the deceased person. He was a retired track coach and history professor from Cardinal Newman High School.
